May Fourth Square

五四广场

May Fourth Square is Qingdao’s modern civic center, named after the 1919 May Fourth Movement. The centerpiece is the red Wind of May sculpture — a 30-meter spiraling beacon visible from the coast. By dusk, locals fly kites, skateboard, and practice dance routines. The seaside promenade starts here and stretches 3km east to the Olympic Sailing Center. Surrounded by Qingdao’s modern skyline, it is the best place to see the city’s contemporary identity. Free entry, open 24/7.
